“Making art, good art, is always a struggle. It can make you happy when you pull it off. There’s no better feeling. It’s beauteous. But it’s always about hard work and inspiration and sweat and good ideas.” – Damien Hirst, British Artist
Every time we go out to a new restaurant, my husband always asks, “do you know what you’re going to get or have you just been looking at the menu design this entire time?” My response, always, “Design.”
Whether, it’s a billboard on a road trip, a menu on a date night, or a magazine at the doctor’s office – Everywhere I go, everything I see, I am looking for inspiration. I find myself constantly critiquing, thinking to myself how the design could have been pushed further, or simply just improving a well thought out successful design. This is me, this is my passion within.
As Designers, we need to keep ourselves up to date with the latest trends. It is important to research, observe and share; especially for those of us who have been at the same design firm for many years. The world of design is constantly changing and it is our job to stay educated and aware; in order to ensure the best quality of work, it is our job to do the “homework” to be our very best and to design the very best.
As Artists, we should be aware there are always other places to look for inspiration then what we would typically look for. A vision could be found through a painting, a photograph, music, architecture, or even a beautiful landscape view through our own eyes. Beauty is all around us.
